Anson County Selected As Part Of Uwharrie Region For "Stronger Economies Together" Program

USDA Rural Development and the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service at NC State University announced today that Anson, Montgomery, and Stanly Counties have been selected as a Stronger Economies Together Phase 7 (SET) region. Collectively known as the “Uwharrie Region,” these counties will now benefit from a focused initiative to explore regional economic advantages. The SET initiative will enable the Uwharrie Region to formulate an economic blueprint that strategically builds on the current and emerging economic strengths of that region. The Uwharrie Region will be joining six other regions across five states participating in SET during 2017-2018. Launched in 2010 by USDA Rural Development and the nation’s four Regional Rural Development Centers, the Purdue Center for Regional Development and their land-grant university partners, SET is now in place in more than 94 regions in 32 states. Electronics Recycling Company To Locate In Anson County

Anson Economic Development Partnership is pleased to announce that USB Recycling, LLC has chosen Anson County for its new U.S. facility. The company has purchased the former Anson Shirt building at 620 Anson Apparel Shirt Road in Wadesboro, and after significant building upfit and modifications will open a state-of-the-art electronics sorting, recycling and refurbishing center sometime in mid-Summer 2017. The facility is expected to create 15 new jobs upon opening with an additional 30 jobs added during the first three years of operation. The Anson Economic Development Partnership thanks the Town of Wadesboro, the International Recruiting Office of the North Carolina Department of Commerce, South Piedmont Community College, the Carolinas Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Pee Dee Electric for their assistance on this project.

Abbington Grove Apartments To Open In January

Anson County's newest housing complex, the Abbington Grove apartments in Wadesboro, will be ready for residents to move in by the first of the year. Approximately half of the 48 units will be ready for occupancy in January with the remainder ready in March. Thirty-two will be two-bedroom units and and 16 will be three-bedroom units. “We’re really excited to be there, and we’ve gotten a really good turnout so far,” site manager Rene Kennedy commented. “We had over 100 applications turned in and are going through the process to try and fill these up.” Tenants will sign a 12-month lease. The entire property is smoke-free. Utilities are not included. The complex includes a clubhouse, workout room, computer room and a community kitchen area in the clubhouse. There is also a grilling area with a covered gazebo, a playground and a laundry room, though apartments will also have laundry hookups, Kennedy said.
